Managua Backpackers Inn is a hostel for backpackers and travelers where many of the facilities are shared with other guests.  For that reason, we ask that all guests keep this in mind and respect the rules that we have!

-Smoking is not permitted in the rooms or inside of the hostel. Smoking is permitted only in smoking areas located outside of the main building (i.e. smoking is permitted in the area at the back of the hostel, near the pool). Should it be brought to our attention that smoking in the rooms has taken place, a cleaning fee of $200 will be assessed.

-Out of respect for other guests and our neighbors, we enforce quiet hours between 11 pm and 7 am.

-We do not allow outside alcohol.  We are licensed to sell alcohol and we offer a selection of local beer.

-Illegal Drug Use:  Due to strict laws prohibiting drug use in Nicaragua, we require that guests do not possess or use illegal drugs on the property.   Guests found to be using illegal drugs on the premises, will be asked to leave immediately.

-We do not allow outside visitors into the hostel.  This is a private hostel and any guests must be checked in, with proper identification, at reception.  Any guests caught trying to sneak unregistered guests into the hostel will be required to leave the premises immediately.

-Guests are required to conduct themselves reasonably and responsibly and must not act in any way which may disturb other guests.  Failure to adhere to this requirement may result in customers being asked to leave the hostel in which event all additional charges shall become immediately payable by the customers. Any guest(s) who, in the opinion of our staff, compromise the comfort, safety, experience, or security of other guests, or staff will be asked to leave the hostel premises immediately. Guests are expected to respect other guests as well as staff and property. The guest will be responsible for any loss or damage caused at the hostel. Managua Backpackers Inn (MBI, S.A.) reserves the right of admission.

-Personal Property: We offer personal lockers located in the reception area.  It is the guest’s responsibility to ensure that their personal belongings are secure at all times. Managua Backpackers Inn (MBI, S.A.) accepts no liability for the loss, theft, or damage to guests’ property, however, sustained or caused.

It is generally safe to take taxis in Managua during daytime hours, however, we
recommend that our guests be very cautious when taking random taxis off
the street or from transportation terminals and bus stops after dark.
First of all, make sure that the taxi has the markings of a legitimate
taxi, i.e. has red and white colored license plates (always take note of the license plate number before entering the taxi), has a “cooperativa” symbol painted at the front drivers side and has a
checker-board sticker painted along the full length of the car.
Secondly, you can ask to see the taxi drivers license.

Yes, it is generally safe to walk in the neighborhood, named “Colonial Los Robles”, in which the hostel is located. However, guests should always take precautions by not carrying more money than they need to and by locking up their passport and other valuables at the hostel.

Unlike many European and North American cities, the commercial center of Managua is up for debate and is not clearly defined by a tall cluster of towers.  Before the earthquake of 1972, the center was located near the lake to the north of the hostel.  In recent years, the center has shifted to the south along Carretera a Masaya.  The “new center” encompasses the area around the shopping center named “Metrocentro”.  The hostel is located approximately a 5 minutes walk from Metrocentro.

Our earliest check-in time is 3pm and our latest check-out time is 11am.

The latest check-out time is 11am and we reserve the right to charge an additional night’s stay if guests have not departed the room (including removing all of their personal items) by this time.

Guests are welcome to enjoy the facilities (outside of the room) until 3pm on the day of their departure after which we charge a $5 / person day-use fee.  Guests remaining after 7pm will be charged for the night at the applicable rate.

Our normal hours of operation for reception are Monday-Sunday, 10 am-10 pm.

Please contact us in advance and we will do our best to make arrangements for late arrival.

No.  For the comfort of other guests, we do not allow pets on the property.

Yes, we offer free parking on the property.  We have limited space available, so please let us know in advance if you will need a parking space.

We strive to maintain transparency with our guests about the costs associated with their stay.

When you use a credit or debit card to book a room or service with us, we add a 5% processing fee to cover the costs we incur from card companies. This approach allows us to keep our room rates competitive without compromising on the quality of our services.

Full payment is due upon check-in at the hostel, though payment is often required in advance in the case of bookings made through Booking.com and Hostelworld.com.

Payment can be made in USD, Nicaraguan Cordobas, and by Credit/Debit Card (a 5% fee is applied to payments by Card).
